La situation stratégique du Maroc autant que ses ressources économiques sollicitent une action des États-Unis en sa faveur : des bases militaires à l’aide économique et aux premiers investissements. Le roi Mohammed V a des rapports parfois tendus avec eux, en raison de son ouverture politique à l’est et de ses positions sur les conflits d’Afrique du Nord et du Moyen-Orient. Le roi Hassan II, après 1961, apaise ces tensions et le Maroc reçoit une aide multiple des États-Unis. Les archives diplomatiques françaises montrent que la France suit attentivement cette évolution. | ||
