L’Irlande, à l’époque toujours partie intégrante du Royaume-Uni, semblait se diriger vers la guerre civile entre nationalistes, en faveur du home rule (l’autonomie), et unionistes qui rejetaient toute idée d’autonomie. Certains nationalistes irlandais étaient inspirés par la façon dont la Double Monarchie s’occupait de la question brûlante des nationalités. Quant à la presse austro-hongroise, elle suivait la crise irlandaise avec intérêt. Il apparaît bien également que certains politiciens et militaires à Vienne, mais aussi à Berlin, tinrent compte de la crise irlandaise dans la formulation de leur politique durant l’été de 1914 qui allait mener vers la Première Guerre mondiale. | ||

Ireland was at that stage still part of the United Kingdom but seemed to be heading for civil war between nationalists in favour of home rule and unionists who totally opposed it. Certain Irish nationalists were inspired by the way the Double Monarchy dealt with the burning issue of nationalities. The Austro-Hungarian press followed the Irish crisis with interest. It would also seem that some politicians and military figures in Vienna, but also in Berlin, took the Irish crisis into account in the formulation of their policy that would eventually lead to the outbreak of the First World War. | ||
