Cet article propose une mise en perspective historique et anthropologique des formes d’expression du diplomate et montre pourquoi le langage diplomatique est à la fois formel et nécessaire, caractéristiques le rapprochant de celles de la langue de bois. Les notions d’ambiguïté, de contexte, d’émotions et de valeurs sont abordées. Enfin, la langue de la diplomatie a une dimension à la fois interne (entre diplomates) et externe (vers le public et les médias). Ce travail est alimenté par des entretiens et par notre expérience de formateur de diplomates au ministère des Affaires étrangères. | ||

This article offers a historical and anthropological perspective on forms of diplomatic expression and shows why the language of diplomacy is altogether formal and necessary, characteristics that liken it to the « wooden language » of bureaucracy.
