Né à Laval dans les années 1930, le groupe d’abord appelé Besnier du nom de son fondateur a connu une croissance considérable après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. On retrace ici d’abord l’évolution de cette entreprise familiale autour de toute une série d’acquisitions en France puis à l’international. On s’intéresse ensuite aux choix effectués par la direction de l’entreprise tels qu’on peut les reconstituer encore assez partiellement. Enfin, on revient sur les événements des dernières années qui ont mis dans l’actualité un groupe longtemps fier de sa discrétion.

Founded in Laval in the 1930s and at first called Besnier after the name of its founder, the group experienced considerable growth after the Second World War. We begin by tracing the development of this family business around a series of acquisitions in France and then internationally. We then look at the choices made by the management of the company to the extent that we can still reconstitute them, only partially at this point. Finally, we reassess the events of the past few years that have put into the headlines a group which had long taken pride in its discretion.
