520			_aIn an increasingly polarised world, the stereotypes associated with the “migrant”– initially a neutral term – tend to take on what is essentially a pejorative connotation. In point of fact, the term “foreigner” can be considered in two other ways: either positively, as in the Greek xenos, which can be found in the definition of the USA as a Land of immigration; or negatively, as in the English meaning of the word “alien”, the Freudian uncanniness of which culminates in Ridley Scott’s film of the same name. Hence the central importance of translation, which makes it possible, by allowing us to shift from one imaginary, one culture, or even one country to another, to rehumanise the figure of the migrant instead of being under the sway of the incommunication of which they are now the target.
520			_aDans un monde de plus en plus polarisé, les stéréotypes autour du « migrant » – initialement un terme neutre – tendent à prendre une connotation essentiellement péjorative. En réalité, on peut considérer l’étranger de deux autres façons : soit de manière positive, comme avec le grec xenos que l’on retrouve dans la définition des USA en tant que Land of immigration, soit effectivement de manière négative, comme avec le sens qu’a pris en anglais le mot alien, dont l’inquiétante étrangeté trouve son paroxysme dans le film éponyme de Ridley Scott. D’où l’importance centrale de la traduction, qui permet, en passant d’un imaginaire, d’une culture, voire d’un pays à l’autre, de réhumaniser la figure du migrant au lieu d’être sous l’emprise de l’incommunication dont il est aujourd’hui la cible.
