Mais Baudelaire dans son recueil en fait une tout autre utilisation inaugurant par là une esthétique radicalement subversive et moderne en son temps. D’où vient ce mal et quelles formes prend-il dans une œuvre où se décèlent néanmoins la prégnance d’une culture gréco-latine très riche ? En ce sens, le poète en se jouant des tabous, initie le lecteur à la découverte de ses propres fantasmes, et contribue largement à la conquête de notre liberté intérieure.

But Baudelaire in his book uses them in a totally different way, unveiling through them a radically subversive aesthetic which is very modern for his time. Where does this evil come from, and which shapes does it take in a work where we can detect nevertheless the powerful impression of a very rich Greco-Latin culture ? In this sense, the poet scoffing at taboos, initiates the reader to the discovery of his/her own monsters, and greatly contributes to the conquest of our interior freedom.
