Espone minutamente le caratteristiche del tempo, secondo l’una e l’altro. Riferendosi ai concetti freudiani di rappresentazione di cosa e rappresentazione di parola, processo primario e processo secondario, formula l’ipotesi secondo la quale il rêve-éveillé, dalla parte della rappresentazione della cosa, rende possibile un accesso al processo primario dell’inconscio, prima di dare un accesso fertile al processo secondario dell’analisi. Poi precisa diversi aspetti del metodo, sempre sotto l’aspetto delle differenze legate al tempo : tra l’altro, l’atteggiamento dell’analizzante, le differenze fatte nel corso delle sedute tra il rêve-éveillé, le immagine e l’analisi, le parole.
