520 _aIn what ways does Sar-El, a volunteer programme in the Israel Defense Forces, play a dual role of supply and demand in the relations between the Jewish diaspora and the state of Israel? Answering this question implies considering Sar-El as a practical case of the Israelisation of the diaspora by Israel, i.e. as an enterprise of capturing Jews from abroad by a self-proclaimed centre of the Jewish world, while grasping its inscription in the continuum of commitments of the Jews remaining in the diaspora. What is at stake in the implementation and success of this programme questions the contemporary situation of Jews in France and the evolution of Zionism in the French contemporary context. More broadly, the development of such programmes must be understood as part of the historical process of self-adjustment of the axiomatic of the guardian state developed by D. Trom.
