520			_aChild/parent meeting spaces (French acronym EREP) are places dedicated to encounters between a parent and his or her child(ren) in a context of marital conflict that precludes usual forms of access. However, such visits can set the scene for extremely awkward experiences for the children concerned. Through a detailed account and then an interpretative reading of a clinical vignette involving a 6-year-old child coming to meet his father in an EREP, this article uses theoretical tools from the psychoanalytical literature to highlight the negative consequences of the rift in parental discourse on the child’s identity-building process, in relation to their filiation. It also looks at the active role that professionals in the meeting place can play in reducing the divide, thereby defending the child’s best interests.
