520			_aL’article étudie l’évolution en français des adverbes modaux voirement et vraiment, depuis l’ancien français jusqu’au XVIIe siècle. Tant voirement que vraiment marquent le degré de vérité que le locuteur accorde à l’énoncé. Ils portent sur un énoncé p dont ils renforcent le degré de vérité et de certitude. Voirement est confirmatif, il reprend littéralement ou reformule des propos antérieurs. Il a également un emploi dialogal polyphonique : il renvoie à un point de vue que, réflexion faite, il vient confirmer. Malgré une parenté évidente, vraiment n’a jamais eu de valeur polyphonique ou confirmative. À la différence de voirement, il peut entrer dans des contextes réfutatifs. Plus fortement assertif que voirement, vraiment n’est pas réactif. Dans vraiment p, le locuteur asserte de façon emphatique la vérité d’un énoncé p à partir de sa conviction personnelle.
520			_aAssertion of Truth and Speaker’s Commitment: The Evolution of ‘Voirement’ and ‘Vraiment’ in French (12th-17th century) This paper studies the evolution in French of the modal adverbs voirement and vraiment, from Old French to the 17th century. Both adverbs make a comment on the degree of truth of the utterance as perceived by the speaker. They take an utterance p into their scope and reinforce its degree of truth and certitude. Voirement marks agreement, it points backwards and repeats literally or reformulates what has been previously said. In dialogue it may be polyphonic: it refers to a point of view which, on reflection, is confirmed. In spite of an evident link between them, vraiment has never had a polyphonic or confirmative function. Unlike voirement, it can appear in a context of disagreement. More strongly assertive than voirement, vraiment is not retroactive. In vraiment p, the speaker asserts emphatically the truth of an utterance p on the basis of his personal conviction.
