520			_aLes études des collections kanak ont révélé que parmi les vastes corpus du patrimoine matériel Kanak dispersé dans plusieurs musées, un petit nombre de ces objets sont recouverts – ou faits – de textiles européens. Dans cet article méthodologique, j’illustrerai l’approche en plusieurs phases adoptée pour étudier l’intégration des textiles européens dans objets kanaks. Je collecterai un ensemble de 210 objets Kanak contenant des textiles européens dans leurs compositions, afin de générer de données supplémentaires sur leur fabrication, leur provenance et leur signification sociale. Par la suite, grâce à leur comparaison et à l’analyse approfondie résultant de deux visites de recherche, il sera possible de mettre en évidence de nouveaux témoignages liés à l’utilisation de ce type de textiles. Ce projet entend fournir une base pour dévoiler la signification culturelle des tissus européens dans le contexte de la culture matérielle Kanak.
520			_aThe studies of tha Kanak collections have revealed that among the vast bodies of scattered Kanak material heritage in several museums, a small number of such objects are covered with –or made of– European textiles. In this methodological article, I will detail the multi-phase approach undertaken to investigate the integration of European textiles within Kanak objects. I will assemble a group of 210 Kanak objects with European fabrics in their compositions, with which to generate further data on their construction, provenance, and social meaning. Subsequently, as a result of their comparison and the deeper analysis from two research visits, it will be possible to highlight new narratives linked to the use of this type of textiles. This project aims at giving a foundation for unravelling the cultural significance of European fabrics in the context of Kanak material culture.
