La mise en évidence des contraintes combinatoires repose, d’une part, sur une analyse fine des valeurs de chacun et de leur capacité, ou non, à s’articuler et, d’autre part, sur des mesures d’association pour tester la force d’attraction existant entre les deux items. Cette approche à la fois qualitative et quantitative permet d’aboutir à l’idée que mais et enfin contigus en français fonctionnent comme une collostruction, dont le statut compositionnel demande des analyses complémentaires pour être mieux appréhendé.

Combinatorial constraints are highlighted at two levels: first, I propose a fine-grained analysis of the semantic and pragmatic values of both items and of their compatibility; second, I use association measures in order to test the strength of attraction between mais and enfin. Such a qualitative and quantitative approach leads to the idea that when mais and enfin are contiguous, they function as a collostruction, whose compositional status requires further investigations to be better understood.
