520 _aStarting from 1990, French Italian studies concerning tragedy, tragi-comedy, pastorals, and opera have both developed the previous generation’s studies of the Baroque era, and opened up new perspectives, taking into consideration dramatic paratexts and their relationships with dramatic texts. The main focus has been placed on the Italian influence and on the reevaluation of “minor” genres and authors, although tragedies, especially works by Racine, have not been forgotten. Comparativism has inspired key research with regard to the circulation, translation, and adaptation of dramatic texts within Romance languages. A significant number of critical editions have been published due to the critical tradition of Italian researchers in the areas of philology and history.
