520 _aOn November 6, 1655, Henry Le Bret obtained two permissions to print books. The first was for États et empires de la lune, by Cyrano de Bergerac, which would be a posthumous edition. The second was for a work entitled La Discipline militaire or La Science de la guerre, avec figures, pour attacquer et deffendre les places. References to this mysterious work had appeared in other texts, but, since it was never published, it was thought to be lost. However, we discovered the manuscript, which is kept in the Mazarine Library in Paris (Ms 3734), and here we analyse the editorial history of the book, which would end in its failure to be published.
