520 _aTwo decades after the return to the West, the revival of the swing between East and West is living proof of in-between spatial functioning for Bulgaria and Romania. Situated on the main energy-supply routes of Europe, becoming security and energy providers seems to be a priority in a context where Euro-Atlantic tropism is marked by an American pause and the Russian return to the Black Sea Region. Each of the two countries manages its neighbors according to its nature and strategic culture. This article attempts to place the paradoxes of Bulgaria and Romania's geopolitical orientations in perspective.
