520 _aThis paper introduces the methodology we used to identify all the French news podcasts currently available. This work forms part of the Obcast research program (in conjunction with the French Podcast Observatory). Against a backdrop of rapid growth in the podcast industry, this kind of inventory will help to improve our knowledge of the content on offer, both quantitatively and qualitatively, for research purposes and for the emerging professional sector. This review therefore constitutes an important milestone, paving the way for further research on podcasts, as it allows a number of research questions, hypotheses, and objects to be identified. We highlight the strategies used to promote podcasts on their creators’ websites, and focus on what appears to be a technical and professional standardization of the field. Finally, we draw attention to a number of podcasts that stand out for their subject matter (in particular, “behind-the-scenes journalism”).
