520 _aAdopting the methodology of conversational analysis, this contribution focuses on the expression of emotional suffering in health consultations with asylum seekers in France. The study is based on an audiovisual corpus of natural interactions and offers a detailed multimodal analysis of sequences in which the patient answers a question from the caregiver, such as “ Comment ça va?” ( “How are you?”). By analyzing three different scenarios—an interaction without an interpreter, one with a professional interpreter, and one with a non-professional interpreter—this contribution questions the way in which the interpreters take into account the emotions that emerge in the patient’s discourse, and it explores several avenues of reflection relating to the training of professionals.
