520 _aThe conditional in French and the modal marker huì in Mandarin Chinese express two types of sense: predictive or possible and assertive. However, current research does not justify the process of the formation of these uses. This paper applies the theories of conditional developed by Gosselin (1996, 2005, 2018) to a contrastive study between the French conditional and the Chinese huì. As a consequence, the ulterior temporal significance of huì imposes two modal cuts. The predictive and assertive values result from the interactions between their modal cuts and their various co(n)texts such as the factivity or not of the event and the type of predictive quantification, etc. Despite their convergence, an important divergence between these two markers comes from the presence or not of the deictic ulteriority expressed by huì or the conditional.
