520 | _aSearching the Bible for what it says about the family can only be legitimate if we keep firmly in mind that the Book is not primarily a collection of fine thoughts, but the revelation of God in His relations with humanity. This brief foray into the Bible leads to the conclusion that we would be wrong to try to find in it a collection of prescriptions and laws governing family relations. What matters is the spirit behind the practical decisions that each family is called to make for the sake of its harmony. This spirit is the one to which Jesus Christ bore witness through his life and his death: “Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.” | ||
