520			_aCet article part du constat que la notion d’idéologies linguistiques est utilisée de plus en plus fréquemment en sociolinguistique, sans que cet usage ne soit réellement problématisé ou justifié. S’agit-il donc simplement d’un effet de mode, auquel cas ne devrions-nous pas abandonner cette notion ? Ce texte cherche à montrer que l’usage actuel des idéologies linguistiques ne dérive généralement pas, ou peu, d’une conceptualisation qui aurait ses origines dans la sociologie critique européenne, mais dans une réflexion sémiotique et anthropologique dont les origines remontent aux années 1970 et à la relecture de l’œuvre de C. S. Peirce. En montrant les possibilités qu’offre cette sémiotique, notamment en termes de prise en compte des objets dans leur matérialité, cet article propose de conserver la notion d’idéologies linguistiques – à condition qu’elle soit accompagnée d’une véritable réflexion sur son usage. C’est à cette seule condition que le terme ne sera pas un simple synonyme de « représentations » ou de « idées ».
520			_aShould We Be Done with “Linguistic Ideologies”? This article begins with the observation that the concept of linguistic ideologies is being used increasingly often without being truly problematized or justified. Is this concept simply a buzzword, in which case should we abandon it? This text attempts to show that the current usage of linguistic ideologies does not in general derive from a conceptualization originating from European critical sociology, but from a semiotic and anthropological reflection whose origins date back to the 1970s and to the re-reading of the work of C. S. Peirce. In showing the possibilities offered by this semiotics, especially in terms of taking objects in their materiality into consideration, this article proposes that the concept of linguistic ideologies should be retained–provided that it is accompanied by serious thought on its usage. It is only under this condition that the term will not be considered as simply a synonym of “representations” or “ideas”.
