520			_aJünger n’a cessé de revenir à Laon, mû par l’attraction magnétique d’un « haut lieu » qu’anime un schème moteur d’émergence staturale, pendant terrestre d’une individuation insulaire revendiquée comme un invariant archétypique (l’île méditerranéenne au sens fort des Jeux africains). En juin 1940, la longue approche du fantassin vaut démarche d’instauration progressive d’une « ville-haute » dûment intériorisée. Sur place, la cathédrale fermée au public et « privatisée » qu’il parcourt des cryptes aux tours se gigantise en axis mundi conjoignant enfers souterrains et pinacles célestes, fondant l’essor spirituel sur une révulsion des profondeurs inconscientes. L’invasion allemande fige le quotidien dans le suspens d’un réalisme magique, faille temporelle où s’engouffre le Superflu, trésors des musées et autres bibliothèques offerts sans restriction aucune à la contemplation du vainqueur. Elle culmine dans la vision d’une charogne écrabouillée « sertie » de six embryons expulsés formant un hexagone parfait : image choc et intuition béatifique d’une morphogenèse irrépressible au sein même du chaos. La Montagne Couronnée « donne lieu » à cette épiphanie de la Forme.

In June 1940, the foot soldier’s slow approach turns to a gradual instauration of a thoroughly internalized “perched height”. On the very spot, the cathedral is declared off limits, a private area for Jünger to climb at leisure from the crypts to the towers and vice-versa. The church grows to a gigantic axis mundi which merges the subterranean infera with celestial pinnacles and founds spiritual rise upon the revulsed depths of the unconscious. The german invasion suspends everyday life in a glimpse of magic realism, a temporal rift which gives way to the Superfluous, the treasures of preserved museums and libraries offered without any restriction to the victor’s eye. The climax of contemplation is reached in the vision of a rotting animal corpse surrounded with six expelled embryos shaping a perfect hexagon: a shocking picture and beatific intuition of morphogenesis, irrepressible in the midst of chaos. Laon’s Crowned Mountain offers its topical setting to an epiphany of Form.
