Au fondement de la primauté, il y a la grâce de la miséricorde : appelé, établi et envoyé par miséricorde, Pierre ne peut être protos qu’à la manière du Christ, en entrant dans le mystère du Serviteur. Le lavement des pieds constitue à cet égard le centre de gravité d’une réflexion sur la primauté, et Jn 21 son aboutissement. Une réforme de la papauté devra souligner que le ministère pétrinien est, dans la miséricorde, l’ agapè jusqu’à l’extrême.
