Il repose sur une mauvaise interprétation du composé ??????????? d’Aristophane ( Ach. 664) qui signifie non pas « très ????????? » mais « ????????? public » et est un composé de ???? « peuple » avec la même forme non attique que dans les anthroponymes du type ??????, nom d’un stratège athénien mis en scène dans les Acharniens avec lequel ??????????? forme un jeu de mots. Les composés en ???- qu’on rapproche d’ordinaire de ce ??- (anthroponymes de type ?????????) n’ont rien à voir avec ???? et sont des composés de ????????? « désirer » (????????? « qui désire la force »), qui reposent sur * lasi-. L’adjectif homérique ???????? n’est pas davantage un composé avec le ??- intensif, mais une forme de ??????? altérée par analogie. Les rapprochements mycéniens et l’étymologie proposés par J. Taillardat (1992) doivent donc être abandonnés. | ||

Neither is the homeric adjective ???????? a compound with intensive ??- : it is a secondary variant of ??????? altered by analogy. The etymology and the Mycenaean names compared with these by Taillardat (1992) must therefore be abandoned. | ||
