En affectant profondément sa position économique et son prestige social, les changements intervenus en Pologne après la chute du communisme ont eu des répercussions très négatives sur l’ethos de l’intelligentsia et la mission de médiation culturelle qui a toujours été la sienne. L’article présente les grandes lignes de la discussion qui s’est déroulée en Pologne durant la dernière décennie à propos des raisons d’être de l’intelligentsia comme catégorie de la médiation.
520			_a?An Ethos in Crisis From its beginnings in the 19th century, the Polish intelligentsia has always taken on a particular responsibility: to work for the good of the whole community while at the same time holding on to its own values. The changes wrought by the fall of communism in Poland have had a profound effect on the economic situation and the social prestige enjoyed by the intelligentsia whose ethos and traditional role as cultural mediators have suffered as a consequence. This article outlines the discussions, which have taken place in Poland over the last decade, concerning whether the intelligentsia can still justifiably be considered as mediators.?
