Il analyse les réceptions et comment celles-ci montrent les ambiguïtés du fait religieux, entre une médiation que l’Église tente de maîtriser et la manifestation de croyances et pratiques divergentes et de discours susceptibles de tensions. L’étude s’appuie sur un corpus de peintures murales religieuses alpines, autour de 1 500. Favorable aux échanges culturels, la région entre Briançon (dans la France actuelle) et Suse (dans l’Italie actuelle) est le terrain d’une cohabitation de plusieurs groupes religieux. La présence des vaudois, notamment, entraîne une médiation particulière à travers l’image, en ce qu’elle manifeste des pratiques dévotionnelles hybrides. Nous verrons quelles sont les modalités de cette acculturation et comment le regard de l’autre sur les images documente des identités variées autour du religieux.

It analyzes its receptions, and how they manifest the ambiguities of the religious fact, caught between the mediation the Church tries to master and the alternative beliefs and practices, which can induce tensions. This study relies on a corpus of alpine religious wall paintings at the turn of the 15th century. The area between Briançon (France) and Suse (Italy) is favorable to cultural exchanges and is the scene of the cohabitation of several religious groups. The presence of the Waldensians brings indeed a specific mediation through images, which demonstrate hybrid devotional practices. We will see how are the modalities of this acculturation and how the gaze of otherness upon those images shows multiple identities around the religious.
