Le recours notamment au concept de carrière permet de mener une analyse processuelle de l’engagement en se concentrant sur le sens donné à l’engagement, par les individus. Pour beaucoup d’entre eux, la mobilisation du Maïdan de l’hiver 2013-2014 constitue un épisode de bifurcation. Les ruptures successives à l’échelle individuelle et collective à l’œuvre pendant cette période rendent petit à petit le passage à la violence armée envisageable. Le concept de carrière montre par ailleurs que le parcours d’engagement relève d’une succession de choix qui prend en compte les contraintes matérielles et affectives de la vie des individus.
520			_aBy using concepts borrowed from the sociology of social movements, this research note analyzes the background of Ukrainian combatants that led them to engagement in the Donbas War. By referring to the concept of career, an analysis can be made of this process while focusing on the meaning that these persons give to their engagement. For many of them, the mobilization at Maidan during the 2013-2014 winter was an episode of bifurcation. Successive ruptures, individually and collectively during this period, gradually made the passage to armed violence conceivable. The concept of a career serves to show that the process of engagement comes out of a succession of choices that take into account the material and affective constraints in these individuals’ lives.
