520			_aLa modernisation du parc d’artillerie japonais à la fin de l’époque d’Edo fut la résultante à la fois de la menace que faisait peser la poussée occidentale en Asie orientale sur les marches de l’archipel depuis la fin du xviiie siècle et des tensions intérieures suscitées par la politique à suivre pour y faire face. L’article détaille la façon dont le Bakufu et les fiefs réceptionnèrent et adaptèrent les innovations technologiques militaires occidentales, mais aussi et surtout, les nombreux obstacles, politiques, économiques et techniques qu’il a fallu surmonter. Il fait également le point sur la place de l’artillerie dans les réformes militaires des années 1860 destinées à créer des forces armées organisées sur le mode occidental et leur impact sur la société d’ordres dont la classe extrêmement composite des guerriers était à la tête.
520			_aThe modernization of the Japanese artillery throughout the Bakumatsu period was the result of both Western military and trade breakthroughs in East Asia since the end of the 18th century, and domestic tensions over the counteractions policies launched by the shogunate. This article details the various processes and ways used by the Bakufu and the domains to introduce and adapt western military innovations and warfare, and depicts the numerous political, economic and technological obstacles they had to overcome. It also points out the place of artillery in the military reforms promoted during the 1860s, in order to create a new military apparatus along western standards, and their social impact on a status society dominated by a highly hierarchical class of warriors.
