520			_aLe juriste et théoricien politique allemand Johannes Althusius est généralement considéré comme le premier promoteur d’une doctrine politique contractualiste. L’interprétation de sa théorie contractualiste continue cependant de diviser les commentateurs. Certains y voient une préfiguration des théories modernes du contrat social, tandis que d’autres l’inscrivent dans la perspective d’une approche théologique de la société humaine. On trouve également la critique selon laquelle la mise en exergue de la notion de contrat par l’historiographie contemporaine aurait dévoyé la doctrine althusienne. Ces divergences historiographiques composent l’arrière-fond de notre étude. Compte tenu de l’importance accordée par Althusius à la méthode d’exposition du savoir scientifique, nous proposons d’analyser sa formalisation de l’engagement social et politique en la réinscrivant dans l’économie argumentative de sa Politique.

However, the commentators remain divided on the interpretation of his contractualist theory. Some see it as a prefiguration of modern theories of the social contract, while others place it in the perspective of a theological approach to human society. There is also criticism that contemporary historiography’s emphasis on the notion of contract has misled the Althusian doctrine. These historiographical differences make up the background of our study. aking into account the importance given by Althusius to the method of exposing scientific knowledge, we propose to analyze its formalization of social and political commitment by reinscribing it in the argumentative economy of its Polics.
