520 | _aThe genocide of the Herero – a symptom of German Sonderweg ?The Herero people, a small group that lived on the border of today’s Namibia, had the tragic “privilege” in 1904 – eleven years before the Armenian genocide – to be the victims of the first genocide of the 20th century, and to inaugurate the first forced labor camp in 1905. The colonial experience set the stage for the worst catastrophes of the 20th century by reinforcing the myth of “White men superiority”, thus legitimizing acts of extreme violence against everybody else. | ||
