Cet article met en évidence la lenteur des réalisations, qui est surtout le fait d’un manque de moyens, et les luttes incessantes pour l’espace lorsqu’il n’existe pas de planification préalable des aménagements. Ceux-ci suivent en fait la conjoncture économique. À la fin du siècle, la tentative de percer une véritable Gran Vía échoue. Le réalisme prévaut chez une partie des acteurs économiques qui s’opposent au projet. Les limites financières et sociales de la capitale de Vieille-Castille empêchent l’apparition d’un urbanisme de prestige malgré les velléités d’une partie de la bourgeoisie.

Success and failures of urbanism in Valladolid in the XIXth Century We use the building of a major axis in the city centre of Valladolid as an illustration of the urbanism problems in the Spanish middle towns in the XIXth Century. This article emphasises the slowness of the realisations due mainly to a lack of funds and the continue fights for space when there is no prior planning of the buildings. In fact the buildings are just following the economic situation. At the end of the Century, the attempt to breakthrough a true Gran Vía failed. A part of the realistic economic actors opposed themselves to the project. The financial and social limits of the regional capital of Old-Castile prevent the emergence of a prestigious urbanism in spite of the elite’s vague desire to get one.
