| 520 | _aLa mondialisation à l’anglaise dans l’entre-deux-guerres : stratégie planétaire ou repli impérial ?Après avoir dominé la première mondialisation au travers d’un empire planétaire, d’une économie-monde et du capitalisme libéral, le Royaume-Uni a cherché, entre 1919 et 1939, à reprendre ses objectifs historiques : la paix et la recherche de la puissance. Après avoir tenté de restaurer un ordre global, la Grande-Bretagne a fini par opter, à compter de 1931-1932, pour une mondialisation limitée, dans le cadre de l’Empire et de la zone sterling. Voulue par les conservateurs et relayée par une adaptation corporatiste, cette politique résulte d’un choix : la défense du pouvoir des élites. Le « gentlemanly capitalism » a ainsi assuré la survie d’un Establishment impérialiste avant que le second conflit mondial ne lui impose une nouvelle mutation. | ||

Unable to restore their global order, the British opted then, after 1931-1932, for a limited form of globalisation, based on the Empire and the sterling area. Supported by a corporatist power structure and the Tory party, this policy had a major aim : the defence of the ruling elites. In this way the « gentlemanly capitalism » allowed the survival of an imperialist type of Establishment up to the Second World War which opened a new era of change. | ||
