L’ancienne puissance coloniale se voit donc contrainte à une réadaptation de son modèle colonial, dont elle n’est plus la seule maîtresse : les conditions du retour des Britanniques en Malaisie se trouvent ainsi dictées par les nouvelles grandes puissances de l’après-guerre, mais aussi négociées avec les populations locales qui rejettent le modèle que l’on tente de leur imposer. Enfin, ce retour aux affaires est extorqué peu à peu au Parti communiste de Malaisie, qui est à la fois le grand allié et le grand rival sur la scène intérieure. | ||

Therefore the former colonial power had to readapt its colonial model, but was no longer the only pilot on board : the conditions of the return of the British were thus dictated by the new great powers of the post-war era, but they were also negotiated with the local people who rejected the model which was imposed on them. This return was then extorted little by little from the Communist Party of Malaya, which was both the great ally and the great rival of the British on the internal scene. | ||
