À Hanoi, pendant la colonisation, les autorités françaises s’efforcent de fermer, limiter et isoler les lieux et l’espace prostitutionnels alors que les acteurs de l’économie prostitutionnelle circulent, dépassent les limites imposées et jouent avec elles. Il n’y a donc pas une géographie de la prostitution mais de nombreuses logiques spatiales qui se chevauchent, se croisent voire s’opposent. À l’idéal d’un lieu clos, discret et facilement identifiable, s’oppose la réalité d’un espace prostitutionnel éclaté, organisé selon des logiques réticulaires parcourant l’intégralité de la ville. | ||

The aim is thus to control the space set aside for prostitution so that it does not submerge the entire city. In Hanoi, during the colonial period, the French authorities attempted to shut down, circumscribe and isolate prostitution areas, whereas the participants in the prostitution economy circulated, going beyond the boundaries imposed on them, and playing with these boundaries. Therefore, there was no “geography” of prostitution, but instead several spatial rationales that overlapped, intersected or even opposed one another.
