| 520 | _aThis is an article focusing on John Hopkinson’s experience as an engineer and his consultant career in the years 1880s. His engineer practices will be reviewed through the cases of the invention and the construction of the Edison-Hopkinson machine and the “Manchester” dynamo. It is within this context that the professional relations forged by Hopkinson with the English Edison Company and the Mather and Platt Company subsequently will be studied. Additionally, in the early 1880s, Hopkinson introduced innovative methods for testing the dynamos in order to systematically obtain certainty of reliable measurements meant for the electric generators. Thanks to his innovations in the fields of dynamos and testing procedures applied to these technologies he was considered as a powerful mover for innovations within the then booming electricity industry. | ||
