| 520 | _aDès la période de l’Occupation, Michel de Boüard s’était consacré à des recherches folkloriques et ethnographiques, manière pour lui de renouveler profondément la pratique et la méthode des études régionales.Après 1945, il est en position de s’affirmer dans le champ de l’ethnographie normande : chargé par Georges-Henri Rivière de mettre sur pied un musée d’ethnographie (le futur Musée de Normandie, ouvert en 1963), il est également à l’origine de la naissance d’une revue d’études régionales pluridisciplinaire, les Annales de Normandie, dont le premier fascicule paraît en 1951. Et si la place de l’ethnographie dans cette revue et dans l’œuvre de Michel de Boüard tend à rapidement diminuer au profit surtout de l’archéologie, il n’en reste pas moins que l’ethnographie est l’un des domaines dans lesquels l’universitaire caennais s’est illustré. | ||

Georges-Henri Rivière asked him to create an ethnographical museum (which became the Musée de Normandie) opened in 1963 and he was a co-founder of the multidisciplinary journal of regional studies, the Annales de Normandie, first published in 1951. Ethnography was superseded in his research by archaeology, an evolution also reflected in the journal. Nevertheless, de Boüard is still recognised as an eminent ethnographer. | ||
