520			_aLes sculptures qui sont placées dans l’espace public incarnent l’Histoire telle que les pouvoirs publics en développent le récit. Or, les sociétés évoluent, et avec elles, les représentations du passé. Comment, dès lors, comprendre dans nos sociétés contemporaines « liquides », la statuaire publique, symbole de solidité, de continuité ? Faut-il absolument protéger les sculptures et statues en garantissant leur implantation définitive ? Peuvent-elles contribuer sous de nouveaux aspects, notamment économique, à la richesse de la collectivité publique ? C’est en réalité à une reconfiguration de la place des sculptures situées dans l’espace public que nous assistons. Alors qu’elles contribuent évidemment à la structuration de cet espace, elles n’ont jamais été aussi contestées, ce qui nécessite de s’interroger sur les modalités de leur implantation, leur conservation, leur protection. C’est donc leur contribution, au-delà du débat public, à la valorisation de l’espace public, qui évolue en profondeur à l’heure actuelle.
520			_aThe sculptures that are placed in the public space embody History as the public authorities develop the narrative. However, societies evolve, and with them, representations of the past. How, then, can we understand in our contemporary « liquid » societies, public statuary, symbol of solidity, continuity ? Is it absolutely necessary to protect sculptures and statues by guaranteeing their permanent location ? Can they contribute in new aspects, especially economic, to the wealth of the public community ? It is actually a reconfiguration of the place of sculptures located in the public space that we are witnessing. While they obviously contribute to the structuring of this space, they have never been so contested, which requires questioning the modalities of their implantation, their conservation, their protection. It is therefore their contribution, beyond the public debate, to the enhancement of public space, which is evolving in depth at the present time.
