520			_aRésuméL’Église est née dans les villes de l’antiquité. Elle mit bien du temps à pénétrer le milieu rural et ce qui était un obstacle à l’évangélisation devint plus tard un avantage, participant au maintien de la religion chrétienne. L’histoire montre que la question urbaine interroge l’Église sur la place qu’elle doit avoir dans cette société urbaine afin de pouvoir y remplir sa mission. En ces temps où le besoin se fait clairement sentir d’un nouvel élan missionnaire, l’événement urbain lui-même doit être lu comme signe des temps, étape de l’humanité dans l’Économie divine du salut.

It took a very long time for the Church to penetrate into rural areas and what was once an obstacle to evangelization later became an advantage, in that it contributed to maintaining Christian religion. History shows that the question of urbanity raises the issue within the Church of the place it is to have within urban society, in order to carry out its mission. In this time, when the need for a new missionary momentum is clearly felt, urbanity itself must be reread as a sign of the times, a stage of humanity in the divine Economy of salvation.
