Jacques Maritain peut être considéré comme un pionnier du nouveau discours chrétien sur les Juifs, qu’il développa dans le contexte d’une France rongée par l’antisémitisme et la montée du nazisme. In paragraph 4, entitled “The Jewish religion”, the magisterium of the Catholic Church made its first statement on the tie that unites it with the people of the first covenant, thus breaking with the old teaching on the Jews as deicide and rejected by God. Jacques Maritain can be regarded as a pioneer in of a new Christian discourse about Jews, which he developed within the context of a France undermined by anti-Semitism and the rise of National Socialism. By analyzing Maritain’s thinking on what he termed the mystery of Israel, the author shows us how Maritain’s work fits into and prepares the ground for the conciliary document, but also indicates some of the paths theology can still take to deepen this examination. | ||
