À partir de l’ ôphthè, Balthasar opère le dépassement sensoriel du voir par le fait qu’en apparaissant, Jésus-Christ « se montre de lui-même ». Dès lors, la catégorialité de la manifestation est transcendée par ce voir et par un principe de réciprocité, « voir » et « être regardé ». Cette réciprocité est interne à la figure et la détermine comme centre et comme déploiement.
