She lived a certain sort of solitude amongst others: a creative solitude which took her from the project of a literary career to the apprenticeship of a new profession: that of a social service, a solitude which is one of the major themes of her philosophy. Moreover, with her the word “charity” persists over and above its multiple caricatures. The word cannot be found in any of her writing about social work. It is a protected and reserved word. Finally it is, by through searching of a particular situation that she feed she can get through to multitudes of persons.
