520			_aRésuméLes récits de vie de jeunes à Ziguinchor révèlent qu’une partie d’entre eux vivent en apparence sans histoire. Ils montrent par leur manière d’être et de faire qu’ils partagent les références culturelles des jeunes Sénégalais ainsi que celles du temps mondial, notamment en voulant apprendre l’anglais. Un second groupe s’identifie à la lutte armée pour l’indépendance de la Casamance. Un petit nombre d’entretiens a montré que ces jeunes reprennent, sans l’altérer substantiellement, le discours de légitimation de la guerre tenu par le MFDC (Mouvement des forces démocratiques de la Casamance). Ces jeunes soulignent pourtant que le sous-emploi dans leur région est une cause du conflit, et cette opinion leur est propre. La frontière entre les premiers et les seconds n’est pas nette, les jeunes peuvent passer d’un statut à l’autre, sans contradiction. L’enquête n’apporte pas de réponse définitive à la question de savoir ce qui pousserait ces sympathisants à prendre réellement le statut de jeunes guerriers. Il pourrait exister des bandes armées, constituées de jeunes ayant une autonomie complète par rapport au MFDC.
520			_aBeing young in ZiguinchorThe life-stories of young people in Ziguinchor reveal that some of them apparently lead uneventful lives. By the way they spend their days, they show that they share the same cultural references as Senegalese youth and the young throughout the world, especially in their desire to learn English. A second group identifies with the armed struggle for independence in Casamance. A small number of interviews has shown that these young people will offer the same arguments, with few significant changes, to justify the war and the cause of the MFDC (the Casamance Democratic Forces Movement). However, they emphasize that unemployment in their region is a major reason for the conflict and this sets them apart from the Movement. The dividing line between the MFDC and these groups of youths is far from clear, and the young people will change their allegiance, without any apparent contradiction. This study does not seek to provide definite answers nor a precise understanding of what pushes sympathisers to cross the line and enrol as warriors. There may be groups of armed youths that are completely independent of the MFDC.
