| 520 | _aGilberte Chemouilli, militante communiste née à Alger en 1917, a connu trois expériences de violence répressive entre 1940 et 1966 : torturée par la police française et incarcérée durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, expulsée d’Algérie durant la guerre d’indépendance, elle fut torturée par l’armée algérienne et emprisonnée après le coup d’État de 1965. Ces trois moments, déterminants dans l’évolution de sa subjectivité politique, furent aussi ceux de bouleversements de ses sphères amoureuse, familiale et identitaire. En confrontant ses récits mémoriels aux archives, cet article interroge, à l’échelle individuelle, l’articulation entre vécu de la violence, ruptures intimes et dissidence à l’égard des ordres sociopolitiques, raciaux et genrés. | ||

Tortured by the French police and imprisoned during World War II, she was then expelled from Algeria during the Algerian War of Independence. She was subsequently tortured by the Algerian army and imprisoned again following the 1965 coup d’état. These three episodes had a crucial impact on the evolution of her political subjectivity but also major disruptive repercussions on her romantic and family life and personal identity. By studying archival collections of her journals, this article examines the individual relationship between lived experiences of violence, intimate separations, and dissidence with regard to the existing socio-political, racial, and gender paradigms. | ||
