520			_aA la manière d’une pièce de théâtre, j’ai conté un cas inventé qui «mente vrai». J’ai tenté de suivre les mouvements psychiques complexes des différents protagonistes et leurs effets mutatifs engendrés par l’écoute de l’analyste écouté par un analyste chevronné, sur son analysante, et sur son enfant. L’écoute analytique conjointe du transfert et du contre-transfert transmet ses effets comme dans un jeu de dominos, de l’analyste chevronné à son collègue en quête de troisième oreille, de l’analyste à la mère, de la mère à l’enfant, de telle sorte que l’enfant puisse être entendu et guéri. En dernier ressort, l’analyste chevronné sera autant transformateur que formateur en questionnant plus qu’en préconisant. Il autorisera l’analyste à risquer son oreille là où s’affole son écoute. En permettant d’entendre, ce qu’a de scandaleux la pulsion de mort, il permettra de découvrir qu’elle œuvre aussi pour la guérison en ce qu’elle ouvre à l’irréductibilité de l’autre.
520			_aThe Effects of Listening to Listening This article is similar in many ways to a play in that it tells a story I have invented that, as it were, ‘lies as if it were truth.’ I tried to follow the complex psychic dynamics and the changes these engender on the analysand and her child by listening to the analyst in turn listened to by a qualified analyst. The analytic ear in conjunction with the dynamics of transference and countertransference impacts rather like dominos toppling over – from the qualified analyst to the colleague in need of a third pair of ears, from the analyst to the mother, from the mother to the child, so that the words of the child can be heard and suffering alleviated. As a last resort, the qualified analyst functions both as a transformer and as a teacher. By helping the analyst dare hear the alarming expressions of the death drive at work, the analyst will discover that this drive also works towards the alleviation of suffering as it opens up a vision of what is irreducible in the other.
