L'auteur de Surveiller et punir, sans connaître les méandres de la confection de ce « grand livre », selon son expression, retrouve la problématique des « mécanismes punitifs » et de « l'économie politique des corps », telle que l'avait conçue Rusche en 1933 et qui avait été gommée par Kirchheimer.
520			_aThe preparatory works of the french publishing of Punishment and social Structure have revealed that this book, published in 1939 in the United-States, was intended for two kinds of readers: the highly educated readers of the US and the exiled members of the Francfort School. The autor of Discipline and Punish, without knowing the twists and turns of the making of that « great book » -to quote his words-, finds the same problematics of « mecanisms of punishment » and of « political economy of the bodies », as conceived by Rusche in 1933 and erased by Kirchheimer.
