From today to tomorrow: A discipline under the auspices of Janus

This paper delivers a current and prospective reflection about Educational Sciences as a discipline. The author both analyses and argues how this discipline is positioned today in what it concerns major issues to come, placing itself in five strategic crossroads: its name changing, teachers training, the relation with its contributing disciplines, the diversification of its purpose and the refoundation of its relation to social expectations. By examining the two possible outcomes, almost antinomic (hence the reference to Janus), one being quite “optimistic” and the other quite “pessimistic”, the author proposes a roadmap for this discipline.
