Créée en 1945, l’Union nationale des associations familiales (UNAF) dispose par la loi du monopole de représentation des 18 millions de familles vivant en France. Cette institution est unique en Europe, la France ayant pour particularité d’avoir fait de la famille une catégorie de l’action politique. Malgré les mutations des modèles familiaux et la relativisation de l’intérêt porté aux familles par les gouvernements, elle a réussi jusqu’ici à conserver son statut.

Created in 1945, the National Union of Family Associations has, by law, the monopoly of representation of the 18 millions families living in France. This institution is unique in Europe, as France has the particularity of having made the family a category for political action. Despite the changes in family models and the relativisation of the governments' interest in families, it has so far managed to maintain its status.
