When faced with the great aporias of the Aristotelian logical corpus, Boethius elaborated a double “theory of the unique subject” which, as I demonstrate, Abelard not only did not support, but, in fact, completely rejected. I also demonstrate that Abelard, in elaborating his own response to Porphyry’s questionnaire, adopts a position as incompatible with Boecian realism as it is with which we have come to call “Nominalism” (thinking first and foremost of Ockham).
