This article analyzes developments in the medico-social sector in terms of the current transformation of public action, the effect of which has been to reduce the specificities of public policy sectors. It starts by discussing the difficulty of identifying the medico-social sector specifically, then turns to three potential scenarios for its future: A considerable reduction in autonomy, a major rapprochement with the healthcare sector, and the affirmation of its autonomy by means of the ongoing construction of an endogenous discourse. Each scenario is based on an analysis of recent trends in medico-social policy.
