The article proposes a historical reading of how Malagasy students received biomedical knowledge in the changing context of higher education for the natives in French colonies. The study, based on archival documents, shows how Indigenous learners (de) constructed and (re) appropriated knowledge in a local and colonial socio-political context. They arranged, hybridised and broke the practical application of knowledge about care practices and their professional posture.
