Social entrepreneurship is on the rise in Quebec. Promoted by contemporary neoliberal policies, the expression is now frequent in both educational and community organizations (Claude & Gaudet, 2018). Prior to considering its implications, one has to better understand the different narratives and realities this expression entails. Based on three case studies of a street school, an alternative public school and a back-to-school association, this article shows how the different social logics implemented by certain alternative schooling structures in Quebec deal with market-based logics. The framework of the economies of scale (Boltanski & Thévenot, 1991) highlights a plurality of logics distributed along a continuum. These logics are co-constructed, articulated, sometimes even opposed, and account for the multiple facets of social entrepreneurship.
